Its January

Hey everybody, its January. Ah yes January. The holiday season has passed. What once I was calling Christmas snow before December 25th, is now just snow. The ball has dropped and the year has been reset. Now, for us here in The Mitten, its the long frozen trudge till spring.

But, all is not lost. Valentine's Day is just around the bend! With all of its syrupy sweet pink fuzziness, its bounding towards us with relentless speed. In fact, while I was desperately searching for one more pack of clear tree ornaments on December 23rd, the local craft store had decided to clearance all Christmas items to 70% off and Valentine's day was springing up in its place everywhere.

Tired of being bombarded year after year with cuddly displays after all the holiday madness? Me too! So I made these.

I am calling them my "Toxic Heart" series.

Disclaimer: I am not against love or celebrating Valentine's Day. I am in fact in love, and have been for quite a while now. However, I thought these would be fun, and I think they are hilarious. Perhaps I do because I am in love, but anyways...

Some New Charms

A little late, but better late than never. Here are some of the charms I created for the holidays this year. Its been really busy, so I haven't had much time to work on more designs. Maybe next year!

Here are my adorable Bumbles.

And a close up! So grumpy!

A herd of Rudolphs.

The Gang!

Candy Cane Lollypops are a delicious treat.

They make super cute earrings.

There were many other designs in line to be worked on, but December has just flown by and time is winding down. I am going to try and finish up the last ones I started, some festive trees.

Just in case though, hope you all have a happy holiday!

The Holidays Are Approaching

Now that Thanksgiving has passed and the weather is turning colder, neighbors are building elaborate festive lawn displays. The holidays are coming. Every morning since black Friday I wake up and reevaluate what needs to be done. Most of my shopping is finished, but there is still quite a bit to be completed. Hopefully I will be done with it all soon, so I can relax. I refuse to be running around pulling it all together on Xmas eve like last year. I want to be able to relax a little bit this time.

As like everyone else, the budget is tighter this year and some things have to be forgone. We have to be more selective about what we do for friends and family. A stocking stuffer or two less, more humble presents, makes for a more creative holiday. To try and help save a little money I am going to continue to offer the Free Shipping coupon and $2.00 off coupon thru December. If you are trying to purchase something as a gift make sure you leave enough time for it to be shipped.
The coupon codes are available in the previous post and are also listed on the website.

There has been quite a bit going on these last few weeks that I haven't had as much time as I would like to have to work on some new designs. So far I have only one new charm finished. I started a new one last night. Unfortunately, unless I neglect everything else for the next couple days, including sleep, I don't think I will be able to have enough inventory to do the show on December 5th that I was hoping to do. Perhaps I will call just to see if there are any more tables left and go from there. The new charms will be listed in the shop soon. Fingers crossed.

El Dia de los Muertos

The day of the dead is a celebration to remember those in our lives that have passed away. The holiday occurs on November 1st and 2nd. Some of the traditions include making private altars honoring the passed, making sugar skulls, using marigolds, and the favorite foods and beverages of the departed, and visiting graves. Sometimes these gifts are also brought to the graves. It is believed that during this time it is easier for the souls of the departed to visit the living.

The Calavera, or Skull, is a common symbol of the holiday. It is made into masks, or out of chocolate or sugar. Sugar skulls can be given as gifts to both the living and the deceased.

So this year I thought it would be fun to make some sugar skull charms to celebrate. I still have a bunch left to decorate for next year, but here are the ones I have finished so far!

They are so tiny! Hand painting those designs are so much fun.

I hope to have a lot more pictures of the details on them soon. I just was too excited about sharing them and had to post them today. Enjoy!

Top Secret

I have been slowly, but surely, working on a top secret design. I haven't told anyone about it yet.... Its running a little behind though, which is a bummer because time is almost up for the year on this one. I got sick last Friday and its been slowing me down. I did manage to finish a special order present for a friend of mine right before I got really sick. But now though, I am so tired of my nose being stuffed up!

I have quite a few prepped to be finished, but I may only have a few done before its too late. If not all, a few finished would be great. Fingers crossed people! Be ready, I should [with some luck] have pictures soon!
